I assume these numbers are only tagged members, in which case there are more in each alliance then whats being said

Yeah I'm not to impressed by this info. I came across it some days ago in the game itself. I can understand many alliance being frustrated by losing each era - and so wishes to win by combining with others. (I'm assuming that is the reasoning.) But it really crushes the spirit of smaller 'solo' alliances and solo players.
(BUT HEY! It could be interesting if ONE era everyone had to join one of 2 alliances. Two leaders would be chosen and then each would try to pick their favorites (in private ).

I would like to point out FoD has only 10 members. They were already very low on members, but now it's even worse.
